Ocmulgee Indian Celebration

One Day of Service, Sept 18-19

The 2010 Annual Ocmulgee Indian Celebration is September 18-19, 2010 from 10:00 am to 6:00 p.m. each day. This special event is held at the Ocmulgee National Monument in Macon. Native dancers from Southeastern Tribes will be in attendance and will perform traditional dances, music, storytelling, and demonstrations. Dancing and music programs will take place on the grounds adjacent to the visitor center and are continuous throughout the day.

Echeconnee Lodge has had a long standing relationship of service with the National Parks Service. As part of the OA's One Day of Service, Echeconnee Lodge provides service to the event by cooking and serving meals to the various native dancers, exhibitors and vendors. This has always been a easy and fun event. All you need to do is wear your Class A uniform, OA sash and show up by  8:00 a.m. behind the monument visitor's center. We will serve breakfast and lunch, after that just spend time enjoying the celebration. No registration is required, just show up. Get Ready for 2011

Indian Summer and SummitCorps

GET READY FOR 2011! In just one year, the National Order of the Arrow will host two exciting events – Indian Summer and SummitCorps – The New River Experience.

Indian Summer - From dancing, to singing, to ceremonies and inductions, join your fellow Arrowmen in a week of American Indian activities and recreation. From August 1-6, 2011, over 1,000 Arrowmen will gather at the beautiful Ridgecrest Conference Center in Ridgecrest, North Carolina. Arrowmen from all parts of the country and abroad will be represented.

SummitCorps - The New River Experience will provide Arrowmen an opportunity of service at the New River Gorge National River in West Virginia. Cheerful service projects will include upgrading the trail bed of the Garden Grand Hike and Bike Trail to invasive species removal. The Garden Grand Hike and Bike Trail connects the New River Gorge National River and will run adjacent to the Boy Scout's new high adventure base and home of the Jamboree - The Summit: The Bechtel Family National Reserve. Lodge contingents have a choice of four sessions to attend - 1) July 3-9, 2) July 10-16, 3) July 17-23, and 4) July 24-30. Similar to ArrowCorps5 and our High Adventure programs, the week will consist of service and recreation opportunities.

I look forward to seeing you next year at the 2011 Indian Summer and SummitCorps – The New River Experience. Until then, good luck in 2010 as we continue to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America.

Yours in Scouting,

Brad Lichota, 2010 National Chief

The National Committee of the Order of the Arrow ensured the organization’s primary duty to a Scout’s unit be maintained by the initiation of the Troop/Team Representative program.

This programmatic enrichment of the Order of the Arrow and BSA has enabled a Scout to act as a liaison between the OA and their troop or team by becoming a Representative which, in addition, qualifies as a leadership position for rank advancement. In the unit, the Representative acts as a link for communication and program in service to other Arrowmen as well as those Scouts and Scouters who are not members of the organization at present.  If you want to find out more information about the Troop/Team Representative program, CLICK here.
